Kirwan the key for Laois

laois 1-17, tyrone 2-12, (After extra-time)

MARY Kirwan inspired Laois to a sensational extra-time victory against 2010 runners-up Tyrone in this dramatic quarter-final clash at St Brendan's Park, Birr, on Saturday evening.

Kirwan scored eight points, including five frees, as the O'Moore County advanced to a second successive semi-final.

Tyrone stormed into a 2-7 to 0-8 half-time lead with early goals from Sarah and Joline Donnelly. Grace Weston's 46th-minute goal tied the scores at 1-11 to 2-8 and Tyrone substitute Eilish Gormley levelled the match at 2-10 to 1-13 with a point in the dying seconds to force extra-time.

Tracey Lawlor and Kirwan landed frees in the second period of extra-time to finally seal the victory.

Tyrone's Gemma Begley dragged a penalty wide in the 73rd minute, before Kirwan completed the scoring with a 77th-minute point.
