Kildare get weekend off to perfect start with minor win over Cavan

JIMMY HYLAND’S goal in the 42nd minute proved decisive as Kildare qualified for the All-Ireland MFC semi-final for the first time since 1991 at Pairc Tailteann.

The Lilywhites dominated throughout the opening half despite conceding two goal in the final five minutes of the half, and led 1-11 to 2-2 at the break.

Their goal came from Ciaran Kelly on 17 minutes and the corner forward also contributed six first half points.

Thomas Edward Donohoe and James Brady had Cavan goals before the break and they fought strongly to reduce a six point deficit after the break.

They had the Kildare goal under siege in the closing stages but the Lilywhites held out.
