Kernan gets timely Joyce lift
JUST one week into the season, Galway football manager Joe Kernan has already lost a defender to injury; but he has received some consolation with the news that Padraic Joyce looks set to return much sooner than expected.
Darren Mullahy is unlikely to play any part in the Tribesmen's National League campaign after breaking his collarbone when playing at centre-back against Sligo in the FBD League last weekend.
The Milltown defender had surgery on his shoulder earlier this week and is likely to be sidelined for two months or more. On a happier note for Kernan, Joyce is well ahead of schedule in his recovery.
Former Footballer of the Year Joyce (32) had an Achilles tendon operation before Christmas which was expected to keep him out for some time, but he is now hopeful of being back in time for Galway's third National League match, against Cork.
Kernan reports that Micheal Meehan is close to full fitness and Finian Hanley is also on the mend, while Cormac Bane and Damien Dunleavy are back running.
