Two goals in quick succession from Daniel Kenny at the end of the first-half gave Galway a firm grip on this preliminary round tie at MacHale Park.

It is the last time these sides will meet in this grade, as the competition is to be replaced next year by an U-17 championship. The win keeps Galway's bid for a hat-trick of provincial titles on course and it will take a very good team to deny them.

The stand-out performer was midfielder Evan Murphy, who controlled the game and was involved in creating two of their three goals.

A goal from Mattie Kerrigan on five minutes was just the start Galway needed and while Mayo battled back, the Tribesmen never looked like relinquishing an interval lead of 3-7 to-0-7.
