Kelly: Our Super 8s is the league
Louth 2-13 Offaly 0-14
Louth are fully focused on promotion from Division 3 as manager Colin Kelly declared: "My super eights is the National League, that's my feeling on it."
Kelly was speaking after his side were full value for a five-point win away to Offaly which maintains their position at the summit of the table.
With conditions tough, both sides played their best football against the wind with the Louth men running up a head of steam in the opening half. Two goals from Ryan Burns in that opening half had them on the road to victory and a 2-5 to 0-7 half-time lead certainly had them in the driving seat.
Offaly were a pale comparison of the team that put 0-23 on Antrim two weeks ago but Pat Flanagan's men did rise a gallop in the second half; however, with unforced errors high, it was the Louth men who were able to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Disappointed Speaking after the game, Offaly manager Flanagan was bitterly disappointed with his team's performance and insisted they have to pick themselves up ahead of a visit to Armagh next week.
Speaking also on the 'super eight' ruling from congress, Flanagan added: "It's a bit disappointing. It is going to improve the stronger teams and the weaker teams are forgotten. There was an opportunity to benefit the so-called weaker teams but I suppose it is the first step on the ground to getting an elitist group. It is very disappointing for our GAA society and I don't think there is any place for it to be honest."
