THE GAA is lucky to have indefatigable enthusiasts whose interests extend to producing books unrelated to mainstream topics. It helps greatly to enhance an ever-broader history of the Association in its many forms.

Former Dublin hurling manager Humphrey Kelleher is the latest to deliver such a publication, dealing with over 100 cups and trophies presented to the winners of GAA competitions.

Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, ladies football, handball, rounders, poc fada and shinty are included.

'The Family Silver' covers the stories and the people behind various cups and trophies as well as the background to the naming of others with commercial links.

It's an extensive trawl through GAA history as reflected in the precious prizes, whose presentations have brought such great joy to so many people.

Full marks to Kelleher for adding it to the GAA library.
