James Regan goal key for Tribesmen victory over Dubs
Galway 1-22 Dublin 1-20
A goal from James Regan two minutes from the end was the decisive score as Galway captured the Walsh Cup at Croke Park for only the second time.
And they did it the hard way, coming from seven points down at one stage in the opening half after a scrambled goal from Liam Rushe helped Dublin open up a 1-8 to 0-4 lead after 19 minutes.
Paul Ryan shot 0-6 for Dublin in the opening half, with Galway not getting their first point from play until Regan hit the target after 23 minutes.
But with Jason Flynn in superb form from placed balls, Galway kept in touch with Jonathan Glynn causing the Dublin defence plenty of trouble. A strong finish to the opening half helped the Tribesmen reduce the deficit to 1-12 to 0-12 at the interval.
There was little between the sides in the third quarter with Galway eventually drawing level 16 minutes from the end when Dean Higgins pointed and then corner-back Pádraig Mannion edged them in front for the first time since the seventh minute.
Ryan and Danny Sutcliffe hit back with points for Dublin before Flynn levelled with another free and then Regan scrambled home a goal.
Sutcliffe and Boland pointed for Dublin in the closing stages but Regan made the game safe in stoppage time as he brought his haul to 1-4.
