Former Mayo manager James Horan was honoured tonight when he was voted Mayo Person of the Year.

Affable Ballintubber man Horan stepped down as Mayo manager following the county’s defeat to Kerry in the All Ireland semi-final last August.

Horan brought Mayo football to a new level but fell just short of capturing the Sam Maguire when his side were narrowly beaten by Dublin in the All Ireland final in 2012.

An independent panel of adjudicators  - Joanne Cantwell (RTE), Marissa Carter (CEO, CocoBrown) and Jack Teeling (MD, Teeling whiskey) – made their decision at the Ballsbridge Hotel tonight with the Dolmen Clubhouse Ltd ( Dolmen Clubhouse Ballina and Cairde Clubhouse,Castlebar) scooping the Mayo Meitheal Award.

Both awards will be presented at the Mayo Association Dublin gala banquet on Saturday 7th February 2015 at the Ballsbridge Hotel, Dublin 4.

Tickets are presently on sale and given that demand is high, are being sold on a first come first served basis. Tickets are €65pp and can be reserved by sending advance payment to the Treasurer of Mayo Association Dublin, Mr. Martin Snee, 3 Priory walk, Whitehall Rd, Terenure, Dublin 12.

All queries on the upcoming event can be sent to either the Treasurer or Secretary of Muintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliath: E-mail: or
