Kerry legend Pat Spillane believes Dublin midfielder James McCarthy will be named the RTE man of the match.

The Ballymun Kickhams clubman was terrific for Jim Gavin's men today chipping in with two vital scores in a breathless display.

There had been some suggestions by some observers that the award should go to one of the Mayo players after they produced a huge display to run the boys in blue to the pin of their collar.

Chris Barrett, Andy Moran and Lee Keegan were among those to excel for Stephen Rochford's charge.

For Spillane, there is only one man for the award.

"Man of the match from a Mayo point of view... Andy Moran was superb but Chris Barrett was absolutely superb. I just thought he was inspirational today. He threw his body on the line for his county in terms of intercepting and tackling," he told RTE Sport

"From a Dublin point of view, Paul Mannion kicked three great points in the second half but if I was a gambling man now and was hitting Paddy Power with a bet for somebody, bearing in mind that the boys aren't voting until later on tonight, but I would put my house on James McCarthy.

"I thought he was inspirational from start to finish. Two brilliant points, huge engine and his vital mark at the end, Man of the match James McCarthy."
