Terry Hyland expressed satisfaction with his side's qualifier victory in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday, but the Leitrim boss felt that his charges could have won by more if they hadn't done "some silly things in possession".

However, in the wake of his side's 14-point loss to Roscommon in Connacht, Hyland was anxious to emphasise the positives.

"There were times in that game where we had to build ourselves back into it, but you couldn't fault the resolve," said the Leitrim manager.

"It is something we have shown in the league all through, we came out against Wicklow and we had a good second-half."

It was a game high on tension and at times reflected the respective status of the two teams, with misplaced passes and poor shooting options. However, the pattern of play was not helped by wet conditions underfoot.

The sides were level eight times and following a sluggish start the final 15 minutes of the half were more exciting, with first Leitrim tagging on three points without reply and Wicklow responding with three of their own to leave the score 0-7 each at the break.

The early stages of the second-half were a replica of the first, with both sides trading points until the 58th minute, when the home side, who had grown in confidence as the game progressed, went two ahead through Man of the Match Ryan O'Rourke and Pearce Dolan.

Although there was a further exchange of points in the closing stages, Leitrim comfortably held their lead to secure a deserved victory.
