Hughes shoots down Dundalk
Wicklow Schools 1-17 Dundalk Colleges 1-10
Niall Hughes and Mikey O'Connor inspired Wicklow to victory in Dundalk.
The duo kicked 13 points between them. The sides traded early goals as Brendan Behan chipped Fergal Sheeky to open the scoring, but that was cancelled when Dean Maguire levelled matters. It was 1-6 apiece at half-time.
Dundalk didn't score again until the third quarter and, in the meantime, Wicklow rattled off six points in a row. Maguire stopped the rot for Dundalk, but O'Connor and Cormac Byrne made it 1-14 to 1-7.
Dundalk rallied in the closing stages, but could only close the gap to four points.
Wicklow weathered the storm and Hughes, Shane Lohan and Darren Walsh made certain of a place in the next round, before Robert Curran blazed a penalty high and wide for the hosts.
