Hopkins brace clinches final berth
Mayo 2-15 Leitrim 1-14
Mayo's junior footballers succeeded where their senior men failed by booking a Connacht JFC date with Galway in Castlebar on Saturday evening.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Leitrim kicked some fine scores and deservedly led by 1-9 to 2-4 at the break, their goal coming from midfielder Oisin McCaffrey, while both Mayo goals were scored by man-of-the-match Keith Hopkins.
After the restart, Mayo kicked on with a well-taken 45 from Matthew Flanagan giving them some impetus.
A brace of good points from Brendan Carr (pictured) put them in the driving seat, although Leitrim never threw in the towel, battling back to within two points late on before the home side responded by doubling their lead.
