Tyrone made it two wins from two to take them to the verge of qualification for the Dr McKenna Cup semi-finals.
A draw with Fermanagh in their midweek game will be enough to secure a place in the last four as they target a seventh title in eight seasons.
Just hours after returning from their Thailand holiday, the Red Hands looked sluggish in the opening stages, but second-half goals from Declan McClure and Peter Harte saw them safely through.
With two debutants and two others making their first starts, Mickey Harte mixed experience with emerging talent.
Tyrone initially struggled to break down a packed UU defence, and had only a point to show for their efforts, scored by debutant Ryan Gray, whose Trillick clubmate Lee Brennan helped the students ease ahead against the run of play.
Tyrone got on top at midfield and got back in front through defenders Liam Rafferty and Aidan McCrory, with Brennan responding with a couple of frees.
Rafferty's second sent the home side in with a 0-8 to 0-5 interval lead, but Nathan Donnelly soon brought the college side level. That ignited Tyrone's response, with McClure banging in a goal from Harte's assist.
Daire Gallagher hit back with a UU goal, but Brian Kennedy and Harte thumped over eye-catching scores, and Harte steered home a goal after the students had failed to deal with Niall Sludden's delivery to seal the win.
