Grugan and Rafferty lead way for Armagh
Armagh 2-17 Sligo 0-9
Armagh showed they could be a force to be reckoned with by the imposing manner in which they brushed aside the admittedly feeble challenge of an inexperienced Sligo side at the Athletic Grounds yesterday.
Armagh glided comfortably through the first-half, their route-one policy often discomfiting the Sligo defence, while their long-range shooting was right out of the top drawer.
By the halfway stage the home side had assembled a handsome 0-10 to 0-2 lead, with skipper Rory Grugan's accuracy from frees, a brace of booming points from distance by Ethan Rafferty and a huge contribution at midfield from Stephen Sheridan and Charlie Vernon underpinning the Orchard County's dominance.
When Andrew Murnin hit their first goal just after the break the home side engaged overdrive, with Ethan Rafferty grabbing their second in the 66th minute.
Sligo managed just three points from play, Stephen Coen landing all of them, while Adrian Marren was their only other scorer with six points from dead balls.
This was an encounter which provided the novices in the Yeats County side with a sharp lesson on what they face in the inter-county arena.
