UCC claimed a semi-final spot in the McGrath Cup at Cooraclare where they deservedly defeated home side Clare by three points.
The Banner, with new manager Micheál McDermott in charge for his inaugural competitive game, hit the ground running and led by four points -- 0-4 to 0-0 -- within nine minutes of the start.
Gary Brennan, Ger Quinlan, Alan Clohessy and David Tubridy all scored early on, but, amazingly, Clare didn't register a further score until after the half-time break.
In the interim, the students dug deep and landed six unanswered scores to retire with a two point-lead at the interval.
But from the resumption, Clare regained parity within a minute thanks to a pair of quick scores by David Tubridy and midfielder Laurence Healy.
UCC then resumed where they left off in the first half, taking control of matters while using the wind judiciously.
The sides were level on two occasions again before the end of the third quarter and a Paul Honohan point for UCC made it 0-9 to 0-8 in the 46th minute.
And further points from the impressive David Goold, David O'Callaghan and Sean Kiely ensured victory for UCC.
