Geaney pulls the strings
THE outcome was never in doubt as UCC easily dispatched GMIT at the Mardyke. UCC 1-15 GMIT 0-5
Leading 0-8 to 0-1 at half-time, the hosts never looked like being caught despite GMIT scoring three points in a row to cut the deficit to 0-11 to 0-5.
Three points from Kevin O'Driscoll and two by Paul Geaney contributed to the half-time lead -- the sole GMIT point coming from Johnny Ryan in the sixth minute.
The lead stretched to 0-11 to 0-2 by the 42nd minute, but two points from Eric Monaghan and one from Ryan had GMIT back to within six. However, they failed to score again.
A UCC goal from sub Stephen O'Brien was the highlight as he sidestepped goalkeeper Brendan Walsh following a nice Geaney flick, and they await the winners of today's game between IT Tralee and Sligo IT.
Geaney, Johnny Buckley and Kevin O'Driscoll impressed for UCC, while JB Spillane and Mark Reen also caught the eye.
