game at a glance

man of the match

Colm P Smyth (Longford)

The wing-back stood out with a point from play in each half, including the leveller six minutes from time. Niall Darby and Johnny Moloney impressed for Offaly, but Smyth was a class apart.

talking point

Will Offaly's time for a Leinster win ever come? Eight years and counting, you'd think they won't have many better chances than this.

magic moment

Dessie Reynolds kicked a masterful point to pull Longford to within three points in the 54th minute. From wide on the right he drilled over a point off the outside of his boot. Not bad for a player just out of minor.

ref watch

Padraig O'Sullivan took no guff. He continually penalised dissent by moving frees closer, something that Longford were particularly guilty of. Flashed yellows in the first half and a black card on the advice of his linesman.
