Paul Conroy (Galway)
The big midfielder had a solidly efficient game that on a day of such widespread mediocrity just about distinguished him above the rest. Honourable mention goes to Galway goalkeeper Brian O'Donoghue.
How much might Galway have been holding in reserve for the Mayo game. They looked almost uninterested at times here against opponents happy to channel extra numbers back to avoid a heavy beating.
Not a great selection to pick from but the Galway goal, scored in the 33rd minute by Damien Comer, highlighted the value of going direct against clogged defensive lines. A great fetch and finish from the Annaghdown man.
An uneventful day for Anthony Nolan - the absence of any real competitive bite made for a largely peaceful afternoon.
