game at a glance

Man of the match

David Casey (Roscommon)

He has no right to be playing given the state of his knees, but he turned in a fine display, particularly when his side needed impetus in the second half.

Turning point

Donal Shine's goal after 44 minutes. Once he lashed the ball into the net, Roscommon knew they could win.

Ref watch

Joe McQuillan was efficient and steady and was helped by the honest spirit in which both teams played the game.

What they said

Fergal O'Donnell (R'common boss):

"We are going into the Connacht final now with everyone expecting us to get well beaten -- that's a great way to be going in, no pressure at all."

Martin McGowan (Leitrim selector):

"In the first half, we gave away too many soft frees; you can't do that with a class talent like Donie Shine around."
