Cork 0-16 Down 1-8
Galway knocked Mayo out of the Connacht U-20 FC for the second year running in Castlebar on Saturday, winning in a penalty shootout after the sides finished level at the end of extra-time.
In a game played in horrendous conditions, Galway converted three penalties in the shootout through Matthew Tierney, Tony Gill and Ryan Monaghan to claim victory and progress to a provincial semi-final against Leitrim.
Mayo played with the aid of the stiff breeze in the opening half and led 0-8 to 0-2 at the break. Paul Towey led the way for the home side with four points, with Frank Irwin also firing a brace.
For Galway, Nathan Grainger and impressive centre-back Tony Gill registered their only first-half scores. But the Tribesmen quickly began erasing their arrears with the breeze behind them.
Galway equalised in injury-time through Cathal Sweeney and went ahead in the first half of extra-time with a goal from Tierney. Mayo responded in the second additional period and two late Towey points pushed the game to a shootout.
