MIDFIELDER Peter O'Grady and corner-forward Glen Whelan played key roles as St Benildus saw off PBS Newbridge at Belfield.
The Kilmacud school blew away their opponents early on, building a 0-9 to 0-2 advantage in the opening 25 minutes. The Dubliners lost their way somewhat towards the end of the half, however, and Dan Nay's goal helped reduce the half-time deficit, 0-10 to 1-4.
Benildus reorganised during the interval and came out of the traps on fire, scoring 1-2 without reply after sub Paul Mannion set Whelan up to score his side's goal. Benildus kept their lead ticking over thanks to strong running from centre-forward Fearghal Duffy and the accuracy of Whelan, who ended with 1-7 to his name, 1-5 from play.
