Brian Fox's match-winning point deep into injury-time saw Tipperary snatch an unlikely win over a gutsy Louth at the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda yesterday.
A combination of a strong wind at their backs and some excellent long-range scores crescendoed into a tidal wave of second-half momentum that saw David Power's side come back from six behind to pilfer a first victory for their new boss.
And he will be most pleased with the impact of his bench.Subs Kevin O'Halloran and Alan Moloney contributed to the turnaround greatly. Moloney, particularly, caught the eye, judging the wind to perfection with two efforts from the outside of his left boot in the late match-winning salvo of five unanswered points.
After conceding the first two points, Louth then held Tipperary scoreless for the following 30 minutes and went in 0-5 to 0-2 up at half-time.
And they got the perfect start to the second half when Tommy Durnin looped a shot over Evan Comerford's head for the game's only goal.
However, as the wind picked up so did Tipperary's composure, with captain Conor Sweeney getting on the scoreboard and a Moloney brace igniting the match-winning finish where Fox applied the finishing touch.
