Former minor star Kyle Coney wins Man of the Match in first Tyrone appearance in almost four years
Tyrone 0-20 Derry 0-11
A second half full of attacking flair, pace and precision saw Tyrone defeat Derry by nine points at Celtic Park last night.
Darren McCurry top-scored for the winners with five points, including four from play, while the recalled Kyle Coney took the man of the match award.
Tyrone appeared better oiled and slicker in both attack and defence. But the Division 1 side, despite their dominance in territory and possession, could only boast a two-point advantage at the break as they led by 0-9 to 0-7.
David Mulgrew opened the scoring after five cagey minutes, before Derry returned fire through Enda Lynn and Ryan Bell. Tyrone hit five of the next six scores, but Derry refused to buckle and went score for score to half-time.
After the break it was all Tyrone as the favourites quickly found their groove. The hosts endured a miserable second half, before a debut point from substitute Darragh Canavan and a second from Cathal McShane wrapped up the victory for Tyrone.
