Forde gives Wexford vital edge
Wexford 1-14 Wicklow 2-7
It was by no means exciting but Wexford gave football in the county a much-needed boost as they fashioned out a four-point victory.
After a rather lethargic start, Eoin Darcy and Seán Nolan exchanged opening points after which Wexford created a gap as Jamie Myler, Eoin Minogue and Michael Molloy added further points. While it was Wicklow who were seen to squander possession, it was the home side who led by 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval.
Seán Forde and Wicklow sub Peter Hempenstall exchanged points on the resumption, but a Nolan point saw the home side leading by 0-10 to 0-4 after 37 minutes.
Wexford looked to have put the result beyond doubt when Seán Forde gathered a high ball to finish low to the net, leaving his side leading 1-11 to 0-6. Wicklow finished strongly with two goals in additional time as they were left to rue two missed goal chances in the closing 10 minutes.
