Final glory at last for Eunan's as Glenswilly fail on their big day
St Eunan's 0-12 Glenswilly 1-3
It was a game that St Eunan's could not afford to lose. Appearing in their eighth final in 11 years, they had lost the last two and were now pitted against neighbours, Glenswilly, who were in their first final.
Over 6,000 supporters turned up and were treated to a poor game but St Eunans survived an early second half scare to run out easy winners in the end.
They led at half-time by 0-4 to 0-1, but were not firing on all cylinders, Brendan Devenney missing a couple of good chances.
Ten minutes into the second half Glenswilly were back on terms thanks to a goal engineered by Michael Murphy and scored by Kealan McFadden, but there was no fairytale finish.
St Eunan's, with John Haran playing a captain's part, took control once more to hit a string of points from Devenney, Conall Dunne, Rory Kavanagh and young Paddy McGowan to run out easy winners in the end.
The spotlight was on St Eunan's because of their poor final record and that was reflected in a nervous opening half in which they hit seven wides.
But overall they were the superior team. They needed a replay to win in every previous round of the Donegal championship, but this time they needed no second chance.
Apart from Devenney and McGowan up front, Damien McClafferty, John Haran and Conall Dunne also played their part.
In their first final, Glenswilly have made massive strides in their 2-year history but apart from Michael Murphy and Neil Gallagher in the opening half, they did not play to their potential.
St Eunan's will now meet the Cavan champions in the first round of the Ulster Club SFC on Sunday, October 21.
