Offaly looked like a team filled with talent as they demolished Carlow to the tune of 21 points in this opening round tie at Netwatch Cullen Park.

The Faithful County's huge tally was shared among 10 players as they hit a total of 3-20 from open play.

Carlow led for the only time when, after six minutes, centre-forward Padraig Hynes pierced the Offaly defence to crash home a fine goal.

The Offaly response was to go on a scoring spree of 2-14 without reply, the goals coming from their talented corner-forwards Cian Johnson and Kevin McDermott.

Carlow lost left half-forward Conor Doyle to a straight red card on 23 minutes, with Offaly's Ciaran Donnelly being black-carded at the same time as Offaly led by an unassailable 2-16 to 2-0 at the break and cruised home, with Cian Farrell the standout player on the day.
