Farney's resolve secures crown
Electric Ireland Ulster MFC final: Monaghan 1-13 Tyrone 1-11
Monaghan retained their title in the most dramatic fashion at the Athletic Grounds as they just managed to get past Tyrone.
The Farney men shot 17 wides and coughed up possession too often, but their steely resolve paid off.
Tyrone were the more inventive side in the opening stages and with less than 10 minutes gone they had swept into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead, with Luke Donnelly, Michael McGleenan and Mark Devlin on target.
However, Michael Hamill's point in the 11th minute signalled a scoring burst which saw the Farney outfit plunder five in six minutes and Monaghan led 0-9 to 0-8 at the break.
When Michael McGleenan found the net it looked as if Tyrone had regained the initiative, until Michael Hamill found the net in the 54th minute.
When Darragh Dempsey tacked on a brace of points, Monaghan held firm, the late red card shown to Tiarnan Kierans failing to detract from their celebrations.
