Eamon Fitzmaurice suggests time limit on blood subs
Kerry boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice has suggested that the GAA's blood sub rule should be adjusted, saying it will continue to be exploited as long as the current loophole continues.
Mayo were able to use seven subs when they beat the Kingdom in their league opener last weekend by replacing Evan Regan with a blood sub, even though he had also broken his collarbone and been concussed.
"It was a bad injury but there was also blood involved, so the rule can be exploited in that regard," said Fitzmaurice, whose side face a long trip to Derry tomorrow.
"Maybe you could tighten it, that if a fellow goes off in the first half, if he hasn't come back on by half-time it's a permanent substitution. Maybe you should put some sort of a time limit on it," he suggested.
"When there's a loophole there players and management are always going to push the envelope," Fitzmaurice conceded. "Technically Mayo were within the rules so what can you say about it."
Elsewhere, Donegal boss Rory Gallagher has made one change to the team that beat Derry for his side's big rematch with Dublin tonight.
Eamonn Doherty (right corner-back) comes in at corner-back instead of Ciaran McGinley and their side includes nine of the team who started when they sides last met in the All-Ireland semi-final. But the Ulster champions are still without Colm McFadden, David Walsh, Leo McLoone, Neil McGee, Anthony Thompson and Rory Kavanagh (retired).
Colm Begley comes into the Laois starters against Cavan for suspended Brendan Quigley and Mark O'Sullivan replaces Bryan McMahon in the Meath attack against Kildare.
