An upset looked on the cards when IT Tralee held a three-point lead over their 14-man visitors early in the second half, with a free in front of the posts to come.

But as Jack Savage lined up the kick, midfielder Greg Horan reacted to some handbags and was shown a straight red. The free was overturned, and Ulster University, with the wind at their backs, kicked on to overturn a 0-7 to 0-4 deficit and pull away.

Patrick Durcan hit 1-2 as the visitors scored 1-6 without reply to move 1-10 to 0-7 clear.

Tralee refused to give up and they got their only point of the second half from Savage, quickly followed by a Mark O'Shea goal that reduced the deficit to just two points. But UU closed the game out with three unanswered points.

Despite being without David Clifford, IT Tralee led 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval, with UU's Gareth McKinless dismissed on a second yellow.
