Durcan nets clincher for St Gerald's

St Gerald's 2-4 St Colman's 0-7

JAMES DURCAN'S well-taken goal eight minutes from the end at Ballyheane yesterday helped fire St Gerald's, Castlebar into the semi-finals.

St Colman's, Claremorris started the brighter, with James Shaughnessey firing over two early points, before Nathan O'Malley's 14th-minute goal edged St Gerald's into a lead they would not relinquish.

Having struggled for most of the game, St Colman's appeared to be getting to grips with the opposition when they battled back from a four-point deficit, 1-3 to 0-2, to come within two points with 10 minutes remaining.

However, the vital goal by Durcan, after he was put through by Tom O'Reilly, extended the gap to five points and St Gerald's never looked back.
