Dungannon upset the odds to end Maghera's Cup reign
St Pat's Dungannon 2-10 St Pat's Maghera 0-9
CORMAC O'HAGAN pointed the way as St Patrick's Academy Dungannon upset the odds with a fully merited seven- point win over holders St Pat's Maghera in the MacRory Cup quarter-final in Ballinderry last night.
The Derry lads raced into a two- point lead early on with scores from Conor Glass and Dara McPeake but then Dungannon got on top.
A brilliant brace of points from full-forward Fintan McClure helped give them a lead that they were never to lose, with Ryan Coleman on target as well.
On the stroke of half-time, midfielder Brian Kennedy scored a goal, leaving Dungannon ahead by 1-5 to 0-4 at the break despite playing against the wind.
O'Hagan landed a couple of brilliant long-range points on the restart as Dungannon picked up where they had left off.
Patrick Kearney and Keelan Feeney reduced the gap but Dungannon didn't panic and when Coleman found the net 20 minutes from time it was all over.
To their credit, Maghera battled like true champions, with Paddy Quigg and Glass hitting points, but it was Dungannon's night and O'Hagan made sure of their semi-final place with his sixth point of the night.
