Westmeath football boss Jack Cooney must plan without Jamie Gonoud and Finbar Coyne for the rest of the year as they begin their rehabilitation from cruciate knee ligament injuries.

The Lake men have lifted O'Byrne Cup and Division 3 honours already this season under Cooney but Gonoud and Coyne will play no part in their Leinster SFC bid as they face nine months on the sidelines.

"It's disappointing for the two lads, but the important thing is that they have their surgery and start their rehab with a view to regaining full fitness for next year," Cooney said.

Meanwhile, Clare footballer Ailish Considine has signed a new contract with the Adelaide Crows after the Kilmihil star played a leading role in their recent AFLW Grand Final win.
