Donegal's two failed attempts to win back-to-back Ulster titles

Down 1-15 Donegal 0-10

After defeating Armagh by a point in the previous year's final, Donegal went into this decider full of confidence. They had been impressive in their wins against Cavan and Fermanagh, but that didn't prepare them for the whirlwind Down hit them with. The defeat was compounded as Donegal watched Down win the All-Ireland.

Derry 0-8 Donegal 0-6

A game that should never have been played due to the awful underfoot conditions caused by heavy rain. That fact had been well flagged in the minor match when a Derry player broke his leg. After losing to Donegal in the previous year's Ulster final, Derry were on a mission. Donegal were All-Ireland champions, too, but their titles slipped away in the face of incessant rain and Derry desire.
