Donegal will be without their talisman Michael Murphy for the opening rounds of the league he underwent knee surgery last week, according to a report in today's Irish Daily Star.

The paper reports that the Glenswilly clubman will miss the first half of his county's Division Two campaign.

There was better news for Declan Bonner on Ryan McHugh who is expected to make a return to action tomorrow evening.

The former Young Footballer of the Year has been sidelined since suffering concussion in a challenge game four months ago. He had been expected to line out for Jordanstown University but has been recalled by Bonner who is without seven Gaoth Dobhair players and a number of others due to injury.

Donegal are keen to get a number of their more experienced players back for the start of the league.
