Incoming Kerry captain Kieran Donaghy can't wait to get back in with the county squad - but he first wants to extend Austin Stacks' run in the club championship.

Donaghy will lead the Kingdom next year after Stacks secured their first county title in 20 years, and he believes 'exciting times' lie ahead for the county.

"It's exciting times for Kerry football at the minute with the likes of Tommy (Walsh) and Gooch coming back and getting Darran O'Sullivan back in full fettle," he said.

"We won an All-Ireland when no one was expecting us to. It will be harder next year - we'll be on everyone's radar - but we look forward to that. And I'll look forward to taking on the challenge of trying to lead the team as captain.

"We'll have to work harder than last year and go to the well harder and more often. That's fine too, that's what football is about."
