Dolan's drive proves key
Roscommon SFC Final
St Brigid's 0-14 Elphin 0-9
St Brigid's deservedly claimed their 10th crown with victory at Dr Hyde Park.
The sides were level at the break, 0-6 apiece, but Brigid's greater experience kicked in on the resumption.
Former Roscommon star Frankie Dolan scored 0-7 from placed balls, while Senan Kilbride and Karol Mannion also pitched in with crucial scores.
Elphin, looking for their first senior title since 1957, were the better side during the opening half, with captain Brian Cregg dominating midfield and their forwards looking dangerous.
Brigid's were 0-4 to 0-2 ahead after 22 minutes but points from Cregg, Colm Rock, Paddy O'Connor and Brendan Rock put the outsiders two points clear. But Dolan brought his side level by the break with a free and a '45'.
The third quarter also proved to be close with Brigid's just ahead by the 48th minute courtesy of points from wing-back Gearoid Cunniffe, Dolan and Kilbride. Fintan Cregg knocked over a brace of frees for Elphin but his side would only add one more score.
Sensing a first title since 2007, Brigid's grew in stature and Mannion's 51st-minute point pushed his side two ahead. They never looked back after that as two points apiece from Dolan and Kilbride set up a meeting against the Sligo champions on October 17.
