DIT counting the cost of 'extremely harsh' black card
GMIT 0-14 DIT 1-9 (Independent.ie Sigerson Cup)
DUBLIN IT manager John Fox took issue with the performance of referee Marty Duffy after his side's exit in Tuam.
With the game level just before half-time, Duffy harshly black-carded DIT's Conor Madden - who had already kicked 1-2 - for a third-man tackle on Paddy Holloway.
Fox thinks the loss of one of his form players was a crucial turning point.
"The black card in the first half I thought was extremely harsh," he lamented.
"In fact it should have gone the other way. Their man was already on a yellow card and should have been red-carded.
"The referee got that horribly wrong. But we take the knocks, we take the good and the bad.
"We never got out of the starting blocks at all. We are disappointed in our display."
In the end Corofin duo Michael Farragher and Ronan Steede kicked the winning points for GMIT in injury-time after Ciaran Reddin - who was also black-carded late on - had inspired DIT's comeback with three points.
DIT led 1-4 to 0-6 at the break thanks to Madden's 17th-minute goal as Andy Glennon impressed for GMIT, but second-half points from Niall Darby, Farragher and Steede got the Galway students over the line.
