Damien Wallace helps Ardfert to third All-Ireland title
Ardfert 1-14 St Croan's 0-9 (All-Ireland Club IFC Final)
ARDFERT created history to complete a hat-trick of All-Ireland club titles, over the past eight years, in two different grades, when they proved far too strong for gallant Roscommon side St Croan's at Croke Park on Saturday.
In doing so they repeated their All-Ireland wins of 2006 (Junior) and 2007 (Intermediate). The game turned with Ardfert leading 0-3 to 0-2, thanks to two Damien Wallace points and one from wing-back Trevor Wallace. St Croan's centre-forward James Connaughton appeared to be taken down for a penalty in the 12th minute. It was not given and eight minutes later Ardfert struck a goal from David Griffin.
The Kingdom side led 1-6 to 0-3 at the interval, with Damien Wallace kicking 0-4. All St Croan's points came from the boot of Kevin Smyth.
The second half saw Croan's respond with two fine points from Maurice Connaghton and Kevin Smyth but it was never going to be enough, as Ardfert, with Damien Wallace in fine form, along with man of the match David Griffin, who added two more points to bring his personal tally to 1-3 from play.
The only black mark for the winners was a red card shown to Jerry Wallace late on but Ardfert were deserving champions.
