Curtin pulls strings

Good Counsel emerged from the back yard of Árd Scoil na Tríonóide, Athy to progress to the third round.

The Wexford side got off to a dream start with a goal from Tony French and led 1-4 to 0-2 at the break.

Árd Scoil na Tríonóide only managed their first point from play in the 49th minute thanks to Micheál Fennelly but by that stage Good Counsel had added a goal and a point, the goal coming in the 35th minute from Paul Curtin.

The key to the visitors' victory was a wonderful defensive effort.

Curtin sent a dipping shot just over to stretch Good Counsel's advantage to eight points and though his direct marker, Cillian Mulhall, responded in kind at the other end, the damage had been done.
