Cullinane keeps Clonakilty double hopes alive

Clonakilty 3-11
Ballymahon 1-7

CLONAKILTY Community College are within touching distance of a famous double after booking their place in the All-Ireland Vocational Schools 'A' football semi-final.

The west Cork outfit claimed the All-Ireland 'B' senior hurling title eight days ago and -- spurred on by an in-form Cillian Cullinane -- earned a place in the 'A' football final after a facile victory over Longford's Ballymahon SS.

The victors made full use of the wind advantage in the first half to open up a 1-7 to 0-2 interval lead and they were never troubled by Leinster champions Ballymahon in the second half.

Midfielder Rory Sullivan and wing-forward Gearoid Barry were in superb form for Clonakilty and Barry was the instigator on 10 minutes for Jonathan Leahy's goal.

Top scorer Cullinane scored Clonakilty's second goal nine minutes after the restart as the corner forward's 30m free flew into the top corner of the net.

Dan Carberry hit back with Ballymahon's only goal a minute later but sub Gearoid O'Brien added a third goal for the Cork side to all but end the contest.
