Crossbar denies Philpott and Chriost Ri

The crossbar denied Colaiste Chriost Ri victory over defending champions St Brendan's, Killarney, in this first-round tie at Cloughduv.

Earlier they had fallen a goal behind after Noel Duggan finished a great move to the Cork net, only to see it cancelled out by Luke Connolly to ensure a stalemate.

Chriost Ri won a 40-metre free right in front of the posts, but Jordan Philpott's well-struck effort bounced off the crossbar.

The Cork school led early in the game and coming up to half-time, were six points clear after Alan Nolan careered through for a super goal. Brendan's hit back strongly through Bryan O'Shea, but Chriost Ri still led 1-8 to 1-5 at the break.

A fine goal from Noel Duggan on the restart helped the Killarney youngsters into a 2-8 to 1-8 lead. But Chriost Ri were not to be denied as an alert Connolly tied the game for the third time and final time.
