Conor Cox led the way with a haul of 1-7 as Kerry ran riot in Tralee last night.

The rampant hosts grabbed four second-quarter goals, surging into a 4-12 to 0-2 half-time lead.

And manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice admitted this romp was hardly the best preparation ahead of the provincial final against Cork in two weeks' time.

"It wasn't ideal -- we would have preferred a tougher test," he said.

Despite James Walsh's dominance in midfield, Kerry only led 0-5 to 0-1 at the midway point of the half, but then the full-forward line of Ian Galvin, Cox and Kieran Hurley burst into life.

All three, as well as Stephen O'Brien, found the net in a purple patch that blew Waterford away.

And the Kingdom kept scoring with ease after the break, firing over eight points in a row to move 4-19 to 0-2 clear after 40 minutes.

As the game petered out, Waterford did get a consolation goal through Blake O'Connor.
