Coulter to start for down

BENNY Coulter's extraordinarily quick return from a broken ankle will see him start in tomorrow's Ulster final.

Down manager James McCartan is also boosted by the recovery of Dan Gordon, who returns at centre-back as the Mourne men bid to stop Donegal pulling off their first provincial two in a row.

Seven weeks ago Coulter watched Down's opening game against Fermanagh on crutches with his damaged ankle in a cast.

Yet three weeks later he came off the bench and scored a point in their dramatic comeback against Monaghan and now he returns to start at corner-forward.

Aidan Brannigan returns from suspension, coming in at left half-back -- the three to lose out are Conor Garvey (suspended), Gerard McCartan and Kalum King.

Particularly noteworthy are some positional switches. All Star wing-forward Danny Hughes is selected at right half-back, defender Kevin McKernan is listed to partner Ambrose Rodgers in midfield and Darren O'Hagan, who fisted the winning point against Monaghan, moves from the wing to corner-back.

Down (SF v Donegal) -- B McVeigh; D McCartan, B McArdle, D O'Hagan; D Hughes, D Gordon, A Brannigan; A Rodgers (captain), K McKernan; D O'Hare, M Poland, A Carr; B Coulter, C Laverty, E McCartan.
