Corrigan on fire as Fermanagh send woeful Laois into relegation fight
Fermanagh 1-17 Laois 0-10
Tomás Corrigan was the star of the show for Pete McGrath's Fermanagh side as they secured a ten-point victory at Brewster Park yesterday.
Corrigan gave the Laois defence a torrid time, scoring 1-11 as Fermanagh's fine home record continued with an 11th consecutive victory on home soil.
The Ernemen took control in the 12th minute when Corrigan fired home the only goal of the game, and by the break they had ran into a nine-point lead.
McGrath's side remained in charge throughout the second half to register their second win of the campaign.
Laois had travelled to Enniskillen on the back of a spirited display against Tyrone and they opened the scoring through a Donal Kingston free. But this was the only time they led in the game as Paul McCusker and Corrigan slotted over points before Corrigan found the net.
Ryan Jones, Ruairi Corrigan and Mickey Jones were all involved in the build-up as the ball was fed to Corrigan, who raced through and blasted past Graham Brody.
Paul Kingston did reply with two points for the visitors, but Fermanagh were to go on and open up a sizeable advantage.
The on-fire Corrigan kicked his side's next four points, with Laois only having a Donal Kingston free in reply as McGrath's outfit moved into a seven-point lead. And points from Barry Mulrone and Corrigan left it 1-10 to 0-4 at the interval.
If Laois were to get back into the game they were going to have to start fast in the second half, but it was the home side who began the half the brighter as they notched the first four points to stretch their advantage to 13.
The visitors, who had manager Mick Lillis sent to the stand by referee Marty Duffy, did land the next two scores through Donal Kingston but Corrigan converted two frees and Declan McCusker added a point from play.
Laois did account for the final four points of the game but these were mere consolation scores and the O'Moore men now find themselves firmly in a relegation battle with only one win from their four games.
