Fermanagh, without the three Quigley brothers, turned on the style to inflict a crushing nine-point defeat on Limerick at Newcastle West.

The visitors made a dream start, with Ryan Jones putting over two superb points inside six minutes, and by the time Limerick had their first point from Tommy Lee after 15 minutes, Fermanagh had six on the scoreboard.

The game was over as a contest by half-time at which stage the visitors led by 0-13 to 1-1, with the Limerick goal being scored by Eoin Hanrahan, whose long-range shot somehow deceived goalkeeper Chris Snow.

That came after 20 minutes, but it failed to lift the home side, who had John Galvin making his first start of the campaign in what is his 16th season of senior inter-county action, but he failed to make an impact.

Tomas Corrigan was the outstanding player on view: he scored 10 points for the visitors, five of them from play, while Jones also tormented the Limerick defence and finished with three points from play.

After their dramatic victory over Wexford the previous week, Limerick were a big disappointment as they only scored 1-2 from play over the 70 minutes.

Seamus O'Carroll, a 20th-minute substitute for Limerick, was shown a black card five minutes into the second half.

Scorers – Fermanagh: T Corrigan 0-10 (5fs), R Jones 0-3, R McCluskey, T McElroy, E Donnell, R O'Callaghan, J Woods 0-1 each. Limerick: E Hanrahan 1-3 (2fs), I Ryan 0-2 (2fs), T Lee 0-1.
