GMIT's Ronan Steede celebrates with team-mate Shane O'Malley at the end of their Independent.ie Sigerson Cup clash with DIT

Corofin duo Michael Farragher and Ronan Steede kicked injury-time points to give GMIT victory in this Independent.ie Sigerson Cup preliminary round tussle with DIT at Tuam Stadium.

Three second-half points from Ciaran Reddin had managed to drag DIT back level in the last minute, but the two late points sealed GMIT's spot in the next round.

Despite playing into the teeth of a very strong wind in the first half DIT led by 1-4 to 0-6 at half time, with the classy play of Cavan's Conor Madden to the fore.

The home side raced out of the blocks as Michael Farragher and Niall Darby kicked early points, but they found it hard going after that.

Meath's Bryan McMahon missed a great goal chance for DIT in the fourth minute, but they finally got off the mark three minutes later when Madden landed a good point from the left.

Two minutes later he kicked an even better one from 40 metres out, but GMIT pulled clear again as Alan Meenaghan and Andy Glennon found the target.

At that point GMIT looked in total control, but in the 17th minute the Dublin college pulled level when Madden rattled the net to level the tie.

He was very harshly black carded by Marty Duffy a minutes from the break for what he deemed to be a third man tackle, but a Conor Grimes free soon after gave DIT the lead.

Robbie Gaughan stretched DIT's lead in the 33rd minute, but four points in a row from the hosts pushed them two points clear by the 41st minute.

With Reddin operating well at midfield, DIT soon pulled level when Brian McDonald pointed eight minutes from time, but Steede kicked his first soon after and stepped forward in the closing act to seal the win.
