Westmeath have lively corner forwards Shane Dempsey and Calum McCormack to thank for their four point victory over Wicklow as they contributed 1-10 between them. Wicklow had to rely on long distance shooting to stay in the match, and midfielder Rory Finn ended the day as his side's top scorer.

Westmeath led by three at half time, 0-9 to 0-6, their corner forwards scored seven between them. Ger Egan also put over a great free from 40m. Wicklow started the second half well and were level after a free by Cathal Fitzgerald but immediately McCormack had Westmeath ahead and he added another shortly after. Dempsey got his team's goal when he fisted the ball easily into an open Wicklow net following good play between Paul Sharry and Ger Egan.

Will Hender-Philips made some crucial saves as Wicklow didn't let Westmeath pull away, and finished well. Anthony McLoughlin put over a great point from the outside of his boot while Westmeath's Paul Sharry kicked two fine frees from distance.
