Clare qualified for the Electric Ireland Munster MFC semi-final at Cusack Park, Ennis, defeating Tipperary after a poor encounter in which Paudie Kelly and Gavin Cooney grabbed all their scores.

They will face Limerick next week at the penultimate stage. Tipp were happier at the break, trailing by 0-5 to 0-2 after Clare had enjoyed most of the possession in the opening half.

Kelly opened the scoring for the hosts inside a minute with a free. It was followed by a Cooney point as Clare put their stamp on the game early on. Tipp 'keeper Jack Dolan made a fine diving save on 13 minutes to deny Gearoid Cahill before Cooney had Clare's third score on 14 minutes.

Squandered

Conall Kennedy got Tipp's first point from play in the 18th minute, and a Ryan Lamb '45 made it a two-point game as Clare shot seven wides in that opening half hour.

After the break the Premier County's performance improved but, like Clare in the first half, they squandered a lot of chances. The hosts increased their lead, thanks to free from 40 metres by Kelly before Tipp struck the target twice through Riain Quigley from a free and Conall Kennedy from play.

This left the score reading 0-7 to 0-4 after 38 minutes. Moments later, Clare struck for their first point from play - Cooney settling a few nerves. Aidan McGrath had a good Tipp point with nine minutes left but Clare replied with three unanswered scores from the duo of Kelly and Cooney to secure the win.
