Inspired by the silken skills of 16-year-old Shane Conway and powerful thrusts of Fionan Mackessy, Kerry proved far too strong for Kildare in Newbridge.

Kildare could not match the cohesion of a well-drilled Kingdom side.

Two points from Jack Sheridan put Kildare ahead, but Conway responded with a score from play and a delightful side-line cut.

With John Buckley taking over at midfield and Conway pulling the strings, full-forward Mackessy was unstoppable, firing over two points in quick succession and winning a succession of frees which Conway converted to put Kerry 0-9 to 0-3 ahead.

A Reese Gavin side-line cut and a Sheridan free gave Kildare some hope, but Kerry had too much firepower.

Although Conway had a penalty saved by Jeff Keane, Colin Sheehy soon booted home football-style to make it 1-10 to 0-6 at the interval.

Conway fired over 0-4 in the opening ten minutes of the second half, and a 42nd-minute goal from David Egan secured a semi-final meeting with Down.
