Conway eases Kildare's passage to decider
A dominant first-half display helped Kildare stroll to a comfortable win over Dublin at Parnell Park last night.
The visitors enjoyed a dream start as they found the net within the opening minute when wing-back Matt Kelly raced onto Paddy Dunne's pass to round Gerry Seaver and crash a rising shot beyond David Downey from 10 metres.
Kildare continued their early dominance with wing-forward Ciaran Kelly kicking three points in the ensuing four minutes.
The hosts finally opened their account through Seaver's point in the 18th minute, but the Lilywhites immediately restored their six-point cushion through a well-taken Willie Heffernan score.
Points by Tommy Moolick and Mikey Conway's free gave Kildare a 1-6 to 0-1 lead at the interval.
The visitors continued to enjoy the upper hand in the second half and they stretched their lead through Darrock Mulhall's point in the 34th minute -- but it proved their last score for 23 minutes.
However, Dublin could not take advantage of their opponents' difficulties in front of goal with only a Harry Dawson free and Seaver's second from play rewarding their improved levels of possession and territory.
Their scores proved mere consolation, with Kildare being able to afford Conway's missed penalty in injury-time as the visitors easily qualified for a final berth.
